COVID-19 & Hyperbarics
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-Co-V-2 virus. The virus is an acute respiratory syndrome with a new strain being discovered in 2019. In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic. The virus causes symptoms that vary from very mild to severe. It can also cause people to have no symptoms but can still spread it through asymptomatic transmission.
People with pre-existing medical conditions and are older have a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19. Some people experience COVID-19 symptoms for more than four weeks after they are diagnosed. These health issues are sometimes called post-COVID-19 conditions. Some children and adults also experience multisystem inflammatory syndrome that can affect organs and tissues for weeks after testing positive for the virus.
